企画趣旨
南端東京 NANTAN Tokyo Art Collective 実行委員会(以下、南端東京)は、 2025年11月に開催したアートイベントである「南端東京 OTA OPEN STUDIO 2025」に引き続き、2026年12月に「南端東京 OTA OPEN STUDIO 2026(仮)」を実施予定です。

本イベントである「南端東京 2026 : ROUNDTABLE －FRINGE SPIRAL－」は「南端東京 OTA OPEN STUDIO 2026(仮)」のプレイベントとして、シンポジウム形式でのトークイベントを行います。

今回の"FRINGE SPIRAL”(周縁の螺旋)というサブタイトルの理由には、時に人類の発展が「歴史は螺旋を描く」とたとえられるように、南端東京も大田区にて活動する現代美術作家やクリエイターにスポットを当てたアートイベントである2015年・2017年の「多摩川オープンアトリエ」、2021年〜2024年の「大田区OPENアトリエ」を継承しながら、更なる発展を目指して活動を続けてきたことがあります。

作品制作の場をまちに開くことで、作家やクリエイターをはじめとした現代美術に関わる方々が繋がり、また新しい出会いや、創作の芽が生まれるきっかけを本年もつくり続けていきます。

大田区を中心とした東京23区南部における過去のアートシーンを見つめ直しつつ、南端東京がより多くの人を巻き込み更なる発展をしていく願いと、また、首都圏の周縁であるこの地が制作・表現の中心地として確かな渦を描くムーブメントの一拠点であると共有することです。

イベントの前半では、大田区でも数々のキュレーションを手掛けてきた羽田美恵子氏と、大田区を代表する現代美術作家である市川平氏による、南端東京に至るまでとこれからの南端東京についてのトークを行います。

後半では登壇者両名と会場にお集まり頂く皆さまを"FRINGE SPIRAL”に巻き込み、オープンなディスカッションを行い、今年の南端東京をよりワクワクするものにしていきたいと思っております。

登壇者プロフィール

羽田美恵子　HANEDA, Mieko　藤原羽田合同会社代表

東京生まれ。東京都歴史文化財団トーキョーワンダーサイトにてアーティスト・イン・レジデンスの立ち上げから携わる。その後、寺田倉庫にて企業内アートプロジェクト全般を担当した後、2018年6月、藤原羽田合同会社設立。企業や自治体などのアートプロジェクト導入業務を中心に、パブリックとプライベート両方の経験をいかしたアートコンサルティングを手掛けている。2026年のメインはTAAP（Tokyo Artist Accelerator Program）と第一回前橋国際芸術祭2026などなど。

市川平　ICHIKAWA, Taira　現代美術作家

市川平（いちかわたいら）は、東京都大田区出身の特殊照明家であり、元彫刻家です。1965年生まれ、武蔵野美術大学大学院を修了。1988年に「ドームのないプラネタリウム」を制作し、その後、現代的なモチーフを彫刻に取り入れ、SF的な世界観を表現した作品を制作してきた。近年では、特殊照明家として、様々な現代アーティストともコラボレーションを通じて作品や空間を光で彩る活動をしています。

About the Event
NANTAN Tokyo 2026: ROUNDTABLE — FRINGE SPIRAL — is a pre-event for NANTAN TOKYO OTA OPEN STUDIO 2026, scheduled to take place in December 2026.

NANTAN Tokyo opens artists’ studios, production sites, workshops, and creative spaces in Ota City and the southern area of Shinagawa City to the public. Through this open studio format, we aim to connect artists, creators, local spaces, and audiences, while generating new encounters and future collaborations.

This roundtable is designed especially for artists and creators who may be interested in joining the December open studio program and opening their studios, artworks, or creative spaces to the public. This year, we especially welcome the participation of international artists living or working in the NANTAN Tokyo area, including Ota City and southern Shinagawa.

The event is also open to anyone interested in contemporary art, local creative scenes, and the future of Tokyo’s southern edge.

Concept: FRINGE SPIRAL
Tokyo’s southern edge is not simply a periphery.

It is a place of production, experimentation, industry, craft, contemporary art, and hidden creative energy. From Tamagawa Open Atelier in 2015 and 2017 to Ota City OPEN Atelier from 2021 to 2024, this area has carried a history of opening creative spaces to the city.

FRINGE SPIRAL is our way of naming this movement.

A “fringe” can be a margin, an edge, or a place outside the established center. But it can also become the place where the next center begins to form. A “spiral” suggests movement, return, growth, and transformation. History does not simply repeat itself; it returns differently, expanding each time.

Through this event, we will look back at the art scenes of Ota City, southern Shinagawa, and the wider southern edge of Tokyo, while imagining how NANTAN Tokyo can become a stronger movement for artists and creators in 2026 and beyond.

Event Structure
In the first half, Mieko Haneda, a curator who has worked on numerous art projects in Ota City and beyond, and Taira Ichikawa, one of Ota City’s leading contemporary artists, will discuss the history, context, and future possibilities of NANTAN Tokyo.

In the second half, we will open the conversation to the venue. Together with the speakers and participants, we will explore how artists, creators, studios, workshops, and local spaces can shape the next phase of NANTAN Tokyo.

Participants are welcome to join the discussion, but speaking is not required. Please feel free to attend simply to listen, connect, and discover the movement.

Mieko Haneda
Curator / Representative, Fujiwara Haneda LLC

Born in Tokyo. Mieko Haneda was involved in the launch of the Artist-in-Residence program at Tokyo Wonder Site, operated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture. She later worked at Warehouse TERRADA, where she was responsible for a wide range of corporate art projects.

In June 2018, she founded Fujiwara Haneda LLC. Drawing on her experience in both the public and private sectors, she provides art consulting services for corporations, municipalities, and cultural projects. Her major projects in 2026 include TAAP — Tokyo Artist Accelerator Program and the inaugural Maebashi International Arts Festival 2026, among others.

Taira Ichikawa
Contemporary Artist / Special Lighting Artist

Taira Ichikawa is a contemporary artist and special lighting artist from Ota City, Tokyo. Born in 1965, he completed his graduate studies at Musashino Art University.

In 1988, he created the award-winning artwork Planetarium Without a Dome. He later developed sculptural works that incorporated contemporary motifs and science-fictional worldviews. In recent years, as a special lighting artist, he has collaborated with a wide range of contemporary artists, using light to transform artworks, spaces, and environments.

イベントのサブタイトルは「FRINGE SPIRAL（周縁の螺旋）」。
大田区を中心に育まれてきたアートシーンの歴史を振り返りながら、これからの南端東京をどのようにつくっていくのかを、アーティストやクリエイター、そして参加者の皆さんと一緒に考え、語り合うオープンな場です。

前半は、羽田美恵子さん（「アートをひらく」をテーマに、長年にわたり地域とアートをつなぎ続けてきたアートコーディネーター）と、市川平さん（アーティスト・美術家）によるトークセッション。

後半は、どなたでも参加できるラウンドテーブルです。発言は自由。聞くだけのご参加も大歓迎です。

今年度の南端東京への参加を予定されている方はもちろん、これまで関わってくださった皆さま、大田区内外を問わず、アートや地域文化、ものづくり、クリエイティブなコミュニティに興味のある方ならどなたでもご参加いただけます。

地域を越えて、さまざまな視点が交わることで、新しいつながりやアイデアが生まれる場になればと思っています。

中島崇さんの個展「stroke」が始まりました。
くるくると曲線を描くステンレスと廃材との対比がとても美しく、その組み合わせが印象的です。作品と空間が自然に響き合い、とても心地よい展示でした。ライトになる作品も幾つかありますよ。

The contrast between the gracefully curved stainless steel and the reclaimed wood is strikingly beautiful. The works resonate naturally with the gallery space, creating a calm and harmonious exhibition.

かつて水力発電所だった建物に、膨大なテープと自然光が織りなす壮大な空間。

南端東京の発起人でもある現代美術家・中島崇さんの個展「水跡 – traces of energy –」が、富山県・入善町下山芸術の森発電所美術館で開催中です。
中島さんは、空間そのものが持つ記憶や時間、光や素材に向き合い、その場所の特性を読み解きながら、鑑賞者の身体感覚を揺さぶるサイトスペシフィック・インスタレーションを制作し続けています。国内外で、倉庫や廃校、歴史的建造物などを舞台に、「見えない流れ」や「時間の層」を可視化する作品で高い評価を得ています。

本展では、水が生み出してきたエネルギーの歴史に着目し、建物全体を舞台に「流れ」を立体的に構築。無数のテープと自然光が呼応し、レンガ壁や高い天井、当時の機械設備の痕跡までも作品へと取り込みながら、水の循環や時間の積み重なりを感じさせる空間を生み出しています。

光は時間とともに表情を変え、テープとの交差によって空間は刻々と変化します。建築、光、そして作品が響き合う、この場所でしか体験できない特別なインスタレーションです。

A former hydroelectric power station transformed by thousands of lines of tape and natural light.

Takashi Nakajima’s solo exhibition “Traces of Energy” is now on view at Nizayama Forest Art Museum in Toyama, Japan.

A founding member of NANTAN Tokyo, Nakajima creates site-specific installations that respond to the memory, history, light, and materiality of each place. His large-scale works have been presented in warehouses, abandoned schools, and historic buildings, making invisible flows and layers of time perceptible through immersive spatial experiences.

For this exhibition, the former power station becomes the stage for a new installation inspired by the history of water as a source of energy. Thousands of strands of tape interact with changing natural light, while the brick walls, soaring ceilings, and traces of the original machinery become integral parts of the work, evoking the circulation of water and the accumulation of time.

As daylight shifts throughout the day, the installation continuously transforms. It is a unique experience where architecture, light, and art resonate as one.

先週土曜日、南端東京ラウンドテーブル Part 1 を開催しました。

南端東京のラウンドテーブル。
大田区という街で、アーティスト、デザイナー、地域の人たちが集まり、「これから」を話し合う時間。
表現、街、ものづくり、人とのつながり。
いろんな視点が交差して、とても刺激的な時間でした。今回も熱いトークが繰り広げられました♡♡♡♡♡
今年の南端東京も、さらに面白くなりそうです◎

昨年南端東京に参加してくださったアーティストの皆さんと一緒に、前回の反省点や次回に向けての計画について話し合いながら、アーティスト同士の楽しいコミュニケーションもたっぷりの時間となりました。

ラウンドテーブルの後には、私たちのオフィスTAIRUにて交流会も開催。
地元の仲間たちとの輪もさらに広がり、とても愉快で刺激的なひとときでした◎

そして今回は、女子美術大学の助教授鈴木萌夏博士にも参加していただき、南端東京はさらにパワーアップします！

Last Saturday, we held NANTAN Tokyo Round Table Part 1.
Artists who joined last year’s NANTAN Tokyo gathered together to reflect on the previous event, discuss future plans, and enjoy inspiring conversations with each other.

After the round table talk, we also held a social gathering at our office, TAIRU.
It was such a joyful and meaningful time, expanding connections within our local community.

This time, Associate Professor Dr. Moeka Suzuki from Joshibi University of Art and Design also joined us, bringing even more energy and excitement to NANTAN Tokyo!
We are very excited for what’s ahead.
